Nicht Späthistoriker, sondern die die Geschichte selbst gestaltende Nation berichtet hier von den Kämpfen, die sie für sich und die Zukunft der Menschheit geführt hat."</text>

Ennek hatására a korabeli sajtóban felhívás jelent meg "A forradalom dokumentációja készül a Széchényi Könyvtárban" címmel, amelyet a könyvtár Ideiglenes Nemzeti Bizottmánya nevében Dr. Verny [Veredy] Gyula elnök írt alá (Magyar Függetlenség 1956. november 3., esti kiadás 2. o.). Idézet ebből: "Világviszonylatban is egyedülálló lesz ez a gyűjtemény. Nem késői történetírók, hanem a történelmet alakító nemzet önmaga számol be itt azokról a küzdelmekről, melyeket saját maga és az emberiség jövőjéért vívott."</text>
