Im Sommer 1948 beschloss die ungarische Führung, eine technische Sperre zu errichten. Im Jahr 1955 beschloss die Regierung, mit dem Abbau der Grenzsperre zu beginnen. Die Zahl der illegalen Grenzgänger vervielfachte sich, und die Ereignisse von 1956 verschärften die Situation noch. Nach der Niederschlagung der Revolution wurde die Westgrenze wieder geschlossen. Das Abriegelungssystem schnitt ganze Siedlungen vom Land ab, beeinträchtigte die Wirtschaft und die Einwohner erhielten Sondererlaubnisse, um durch die Tore zu kommen. Im März 1989 wurde der Abbau der Sperren eingeleitet.</text>

Megsokszorozódott az illegális határátlépők száma, amit az 1956-os események tovább fokoztak. A forradalom leverésével a nyugati országhatárt újra lezárták. A rendszer teljes településeket vágott el az országtól, hatással volt a gazdaságra, a lakosság igazolványokat kapott, hogy átjuthasson a kapukon. 1989 márciusában terjesztették a jelzőberendezés lebontását. </text>
