Aufgenommen am 4. Juni 1946 mit dem Bürgermeister der Gemeinde Strem, Bez. Güssing, Bgld., Gregorich Felix, Strem Nr. 18 wohnhaft.&#13;
Ich habe am 28.4.1945 das Bürgermeisteramt in Strem übernommen und kam dadurch in die Lage, über die Auffindung der verbrannten Leichenteile in Leierhofe Strem, Kenntnis erhalten zu haben.&#13;
Am 18.5.1945 war eine Kommission der 320. Russ. Division an Ort und Stelle. Unter dem Schutt des abgebrannten Meierhofes wurden nachweislich und mit Sicherheit 32 Leichen, im wesentlichen die Knochenreste, festgestellt. An den Schädeldecken waren keine Spuren von Erschießungen festzustellen.&#13;
Bereits am 17.5.1945 wurden von den aufgefundenen Gräbern in der Nähe des Maierhofes 7 Leichen geborgen, darunter befand sich eine Frau. Da alle Leichen um den Mund und die Augen Glasscherben hatten, wurde zuerst angenommen, die Leichen seien durch besondere Quälereien umgekommen. Ein russ. Soldat, der als Jude in Ungarn geboren ist, gab die Erklärung ab, dass es dem jüdischen Religionsbekenntnisse entspricht und Sitte ist, , dass den Toten Glas vor die Augen und den Mund gegeben wird.&#13;
Etwa um dn 15. Juni 1945 kam eine Kommission unter Dr. Unger aus Güssing. Ausser den Angeführten war gegenwärtig Gendarmerie, sowie der Bürgermeister aus Heiligenbrunn und ich selbst.&#13;
Auch die abermalige Untersuchung der Knochenreste ergab keine Beweise dafür, dass diese 32 Personen durch Schüsse oder andere Gewaltanwendungen ums Leben kamen.&#13;
Über Anordnung der Bezirkshauptmannschaft Güssing, Reg. Rat Dr. Guggenbichler wurden diese 32 Knochengerüste am Ortsfriedhofe Heiligenbrunn beigesetzt.&#13;
Der Meierhof wurde, wie von Ortsleuten erzählt wurde, am 30.3.1945 niedergebrannt. Angeblich ist er von SS Leuten angezündet worden, die die Bewachungsmannschaft des Stellungsbaues ablösten als die gesunden Juden abtransportiert wurden.&#13;
Ob es sich in den Toten, sowohl jenen, die in den Gräbern liegen als auch den aufgefundenen im abgebrannten Objekt, um Typhuskranken gehandelt hat, ist unbekannt.&#13;
Morde innerhalb der Gemeinde Strem sind nicht bekannt geworden.&#13;
Als Unterabschnittsleiter der Gemeinde Strem war Paul Schmidt aus Moschendorf auch im Meierhofe tätig.&#13;
