Das nationalsozialistische „Anschlussdenkmal“ ist – ob man will oder nicht – Teil des kulturellen Erbes der Region. 1997 erfolgte seine Umdeutung in ein Mahnmal gegen Gewalt und Rassismus. 2016 gelang es der Gemeinde, das Areal für 30 Jahre zu pachten; 2018/19 wurde das Denkmal in Kooperation mit dem Bundesdenkmalamt saniert und steht mittlerweile unter Denkmalschutz. Bisher gestalteten sich die Diskussionen um das Denkmal hoch emotional und selten konstruktiv. Im Rahmen des EU-Projektes entstehen wissenschaftlich fundierte und doch in verständlicher Sprache zugängliche Informationen zum Denkmal; ebenso werden sämtliche Informationen und Materialien öffentlich zugänglich im Gemeindearchiv aufbewahrt bzw. auf der Webseite publiziert. Um auf breiter Ebene Akzeptanz und Wissen zu erlangen, ist sowohl die Einbindung der Bevölkerung wie auch der Schulen eine wichtige Maßnahme. Das Projekt soll dazu beitragen, durch einen breit angelegten Beteiligungsprozess das kulturelle Erbe der Region nachhaltig zu erhalten und die Bevölkerung dafür zu sensibilisieren. So soll dieses „Erbe, das prägt“ trotz bzw. gerade wegen seiner NS-Vergangenheit zukunftsfähig gestaltet werden.</text>
