                <text>Zum Retter vieler Roma im Lager Lackenbach wurde der Gutsbesitzer Baron György Rohonczy. Der 1885 in Czernowitz als Sohn einer Offiziersfamilie geborene Jurist war bis 1921 ein leitender Beamter der Bezirksverwaltung in Oberpullendorf. Als überzeugter Monarchist quittierte er nach der Ausrufung der Republik 1919 den Dienst und bewirtschaftete seinen Gutshof in Mitterpullendorf. Nach der Eröffnung des „Zigeunerlagers Lackenbach“ 1940 forderte er zahlreiche Romafamilien samt ihren Kindern als Arbeitskräfte für seine Guts- und Meierhöfe an, sicherte ihnen ordentliche Nahrung und Unterkunft und rettete ihnen so das Leben. Mindestens 50 auf seinen Besitzungen als Landarbeiter eingesetzte Roma konnten über&#13;
die Grenze nach Ungarn flüchten. Rohonczy wurden von den NS-Behörden wegen seiner Hilfeleistungen für die Roma niemals belangt. Mit seiner Aktion setzte er ein Beispiel für andere Betreiber von großen Gutswirtschaften, wie etwa die Familie des Mitterpullendorfer Gutspächters Ernst Kautz, die ebenfalls mehrere Roma aus dem Lager anforderte und so rettete.</text>
