A visszaemlékezésekből kirajzolódik, hogy a túlélésre nem sok reménye volt a raboknak. Egyrészt a különösen kegyetlen hideg miatt sokan szenvedtek fagyhalált, másrészt a tábor őreitől folyamatos megaláztatást kellett elviselniük (SA, SS, Wehrmacht katonák teljesítettek szolgálatot). A tárbori személyzet gyakran cserélődött, fennállásának néhány hónapjában három parancsnok is váltotta egymást. A helyi, civil lakosság többnyire próbált segíteni a foglyokon, titokban étellel, ruhával látták el őket. A tábort 1944 telén állították fel, és 1945. március 27-én számolták fel. A táborban raboskodott –többek között- Szerb Antal, Szép Ernő, Dobi István is. Az áldozatok pontos száma meghatározhatatlan, de minden bizonnyal 1000 fő felett volt.
